Combination seniority

КEach layout refers to one of 11 poker combinations. The lowest combination is called empty , the rest are called significant . This or that combination is determined by the value of the cards received, as well as their suits, but the order in which the player received the cards does not matter.

1. Royal flush– the highest poker hand - 5 high cards of the same suit (AKQJ-10).

2. Straight flush – straight in the same suit. A straight is 5 consecutive cards, for example QJ-10-9-8. The combination 5-4-3-2-A is also a straight, but there are no straights with an “inside” ace: 4-3-2-AK is not a straight.

3. Four of a kind – 4 cards of the same rank, for example, 4 jacks or 4 fives (plus one extraneous card).

4. Full or full house – 3 cards of one rank and two of another, for example, 6-6-6-KK.

5. Flush – 5 cards of the same suit.

6. Straight – 5 consecutive cards, for example, 9-8-7-6-5. The suits of the cards do not matter. The Ace can be either the highest (AKQJ-10) or the lowest card in the combination (5-4-3-2-A). A sequence with an Ace inside (3-2-AKQ) is not considered a straight.

7. Three of a kind  – 3 cards of the same rank, for example, 9-9-9-Q-4.

8. Two pairs – two cards of one rank and two of another, for example, AA-5-5-10.

9. Pair – two cards of the same rank, for example, 8-8-K-4-2.

10. Ace-King – Ace and King of arbitrary suits, for example, AK-8-7-3.

11. An empty combination  – it couldn’t be worse, for example, J-10-7-5-2.

The older the combination, the higher the value of the layout. If two hands belong to the same combination, then their relative value is determined, as in regular club poker, depending on the rank of the cards. Let's explain this with examples:

– ace-king A-K-J-3-2 is higher than AK-10-9-8 (jack is higher than ten);

– the pair 5-5-4-3-2 is higher than 4-4-AKQ (the value of paired cards is compared);

– the pair 5-5-Q-3-2 is higher than 5-5-J-10-9 (queen is higher than jack);

– two pairs A-A-2-2-3 are higher than K-K-Q-Q-A (the value of the cards of the higher pair is compared);

– Straight A-K-Q-J-10 – the oldest, 5-4-3-2-A – the youngest;

– Full 3-3-3-2-2 is higher than 2-2-2-A-A (a card from a three is more important than a card from a pair).

There are no priorities between suits. Therefore, two layouts of cards of pairwise equal rank have the same value. For example, a heart and club royal flush are equivalent.
