Poker is recognized as a sport in Russia!17 March 2007 17:06 On March 16, 2007, a long-awaited event took place for all lovers of intellectual games.
At a meeting of the Rossport board, chaired by the deputy head of the Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sports, Sergei Nikolaevich Korol, a decision was made to recognize poker as a sport .
Poker is the most popular card game in the world, uniting millions of fans. The tournaments that are held attract enormous attention, gathering simply gigantic television audiences, and rivaling in popularity, for example, the Stanley Cup finals in hockey. Moreover, the popularity of poker is growing at an incredible pace all over the world, including Russia. The stereotype of poker as a game of poker-faced cowboys making big bluffs has long been forgotten. Modern poker is a game that requires skill, skill, calculation, training and patience. It is extremely pleasant that against the general background of government persecution of gambling, the commission of 15 people unanimously agreed on the fact that poker does not belong to the category of gambling, but falls under the definition of sport.
The President of the Federation of Sports Poker of Russia, Dmitry Lesnoy, wholeheartedly congratulates all poker fans on such a significant event, and proposes to call March 16 “Poker Player’s Day”.
